The work begins with the groove of the first section. The head is then played on tenor saxophone and electric piano in unison. When the the second section begins, the ride cymbal enters and the tonality of the work shifts from the minor key to a related major key. A saxophone solo then follows and finishes with a dazzling run that peaks on a sustained high E, which is the final note of the solo. The head is played once again, and the piece fades.
As is expressed in the title, this work invokes the currents of metropolitan existence found in the energies of the uptown regions. Urban life has a unique color that is filled with a certain kind of beauty that is found in the sheer brilliance of the collective thought that permeates its constant motion. It is with this notion that the utopia of metropolitan reality is expressed. It is with this notion that the utopia of metropolitan reality is known.
